This week, we will continue our conversation about the changing Earth... What will change, in our conversation, though, is that we will be sure to read what others have written and connect to the last post...

The Earth changes by the tiytonic plates moving. The Earth also changes by the humans who inhabit the Earth. the humans change the Earth by the amount of CO2 we use a year.
The earth is chngeing both by man and by it`s self. the number one problem is that with all the pollution this is melting the polar ice caps. When this happens it is killing the polar bears because they don`t` have no room to live on this forces them to go the ice witch is where they mostly live. The earth changing by it self is changing by the contenentle drift, contenentle drift is when the contenents are moving on the mantle. The mantle is what helps the contnents move.
The earth is changing and it is faster than I thaugt that the continents are moving. They are moving abaut 2" per-year the growth of your finger nails.
Spider pig is right its not just the earth thats changing. Its also because we humans are changing the earth to.
Mr. Bling, the Earth is not just changed by humans. It is changing like... the plates are colliding. and valcanoes, and continents are forming. The earth has changed alot from the past, and it will probally look the sam in the feauture. Like I said before, the contidents are moving all of the time. at bout the rate a finger nail grows, roughly two inches per year.
I agree with MR. Bling. The earth doesn't just change of natural causes. Humans are leaving a mark that's bigger than any before. We're just putting all of our trash into the oceans and ground, and burning fossil fuels for our convenience. since when were we a notch above mother nature and since when did we get so important that, just to make things easier, we get to kill the world? It's completely unfair if you ask me. Everything suffers because of us.
I agree with Spider pig and mrbling about we humans aren't just changing the earth but earth changing it's self.I don't think humans are just the ones who are killing the poar bears by poluting the air with co2
I agree with kidderkizvaagan the earth changes a lot because the amount of co2 we are using. The earth also changing on how humans treat it.cutting down tree's in the rain forest. Also humans polluting the lakes, sea's,and oceans to.
The earth is moving and so are plates. these plates ar e moving as fast as our finger nails. our finger nails are growing 1 cm. a month 1 inch a year. Other ways the earth is changing are, GLOBAL WARMING!! Polar bears have no ice to sleep and stand on. They go miles and miles to find food. An other way the earth is changing is so much pollution is going into the air. preety soon we will be going swiming out doors in the winter. I agree with midnight and spider pig. the earth is changing man ways and just nature it's self. Maddie's family for example uses wind power for some things, and has a vegtable running car. many things can help to stop pollution and global warming. we can help a little if one person cuts down on cars but would it also help if our whole country tried to stop or slow down on global warming? I think so.
I think that humans are not doing a lot to change the shape of the Earth, in terms of forming mountains and that sort of thing, beacause only the planet its self can do that. But we are changing our atmosphere, in terms of global warming. I agree with Siplehoppatense in that we can use alternative energy sources to help save our planet.
pigwidgoen makes it sound so sad wich it is ,but it seems we're so slefish, wich we are. What I'm tring to say is that I agree with pigwidgoen about it being unfair to the Earth when all it did was provide us with animals, trees for oxidgen, food(vettadles),water, and humans. We should be smart enoughf to cut down on CO2 or I think there could actually be an exctingtion to every thin.
One of the things that is going to effect the earth very soon is trash in the ocean and trash in the ground. even when people cover it with dirt and grass, it still looks bad. We put tons and tons of trash in our landfills every day!!
Almost every other county except us has signed a piece of paper that says I will help protect the earth. I think that is absurb and nuts that our governvent will not agree to sign. We are horrible, we torture the world. I really hope we choose to really help clean up, change, and make this world a better place.
spider pig your right the pollute is destoying the planet I wish they were a wayto stop it.
Spider pig is right, the polution is unpopulating the earth by polar-bears dieing out. And the polution is grouwse when you think abaut it.And like spider pig said polar ice cap's are melting.Solar houses realy help's the inviorment! And eletric car's are good for the inviorment like... mrs.Baker's electric car. That help's!
Spider Pig - good explanation of continental drift - nice!
Harry: You are right about solar houses being good for the environment. My car, is a hybrid vehicle, actually, rather than just electric. Remember we talked about the gas engine? It has both a battery and a gas engine so it gets great gas mileage. But there are so many, simpler and less expensive things that can be done to save energy - do you have any thoughts about that?
Siplahoppatense: You said "I really hope we choose to really help clean up, change, and make this world a better place."
I agree but what can we do? Are there some ways that we could affect change right here in Moretown? At our school?
Everyone: Does anyone else have thoughts about ways that we can change things for the better?
I totally agree with kidderkizaagan because of the amout of c02. Sometimes I wish we (humans) should just STOP putting gasses in our air!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well..... we'll learn someday!! :(
See you! :)
In response to Ms. Baker: We can do the little things. Recycle! Ride a bike! Use solar energy! Do these things whenever possible, and encourage others to do them, too.
I agree with you phat mann. But do you really think we should stop using electricity or use less of it.I think if you use little electricity it's okay .but if you use to much that's not a good thing.I think we should recycle more to.Plus use solar energy more.If you encourage people to do more of this stuff you can make the world a better place.
I agree with Harry Plopper. solar houses and carsreally help. think about it, If everyone used one florescent light bulb, it would be like taking a million cars off of the road, imagine what the earth would be like if everybody got a hybrid or a solar water heater. It would not only have a major impact to slow global warming down, but would save you tons of money. It would almost save as much as switching to Geico for car insurance!
Funny Pigwedigion, but you do make a good point. That would really slow down globalwarming. But i have a question for whoever can answer it. Here it is: Why haven't we (the U.s), signed the Kyoto treaty?
I agre with Phat man about biking and recycleing.(I should my bike to school more often.) I'm also wondering the same question as ernie, why hasen't the U.S sighned the Kyoto treaty?
I would ride my bike to school but I live a bit too far away for that and going up and down the hills with the turns could be dangerous.
i can,t ride my bike home because my road too ruff. also i wouder when global warming started
I think global warming just has been constantly going on since we started using fossil fuels but no one really thought much of it until now. People just didn't know what was going on and they didn't want to get in the middle of something that wasn't their business or something that they didn't know. Think about it. Would be afraid of messing with something you don't know. Say the the television set just crashes and it won't work anymore. Would you want to be the one to fix it or would you hire an electrician?
I think a way to stop using so much CO2 and putting it in Earths atmosphere is to use less of the cars, almost any transportations but subways, trains, and buses and that might help the Earth a little bit and not dummping so much trash on the land as much as we do now.
Bikes would help to. I can't ride my bike to school and back because of the hill and barely any room to ride up and down.
That is why New York is so efficient in using fossil fuels. You would think since New York has so many cars and buildings that they would be a big fossil fuel guzzler. But no, they use buses and subways to get around a lot of the time. Of course they probably use a good amount of fossil fuels anyway but they are doing their part.
Ernie - I wonder if one of the reasons New York City is so efficient is because they are so much more aware of pollution. I mean, they live in a crowded place and all of the exhaust from cars etc... is so, well, obvious. Here in beautiful, rural Vermont, it is harder to imagine that there is anything wrong with the atmosphere. Luckily, there are lots of choices that we can make that will help - whether we live in the big city or not -
I agree with ernie that if New York city cut down on the pollution they would have a nicer city but it is alredy a pretty clean city for example the buses are hybrids, some of the city's taxis are hybrids too.If Salt Lake city Utah would do exactly what New York did it might work a miracle, it would be a miracle because that is one of the most polluted city I've ever been in. The pollution is so bad it is like looking throuh a really foggy window.
Man, that must be bad. Utah isn't the most populated state or even close so they aren't aware at all! All you need to do is remember to unplug our Tvs and then that could make a difference. Places like Florida would have it pretty easy because Iv'e been there and it is pretty bright out which would mean you wouldn't use as many lights. Since it is so beautiful outside...why be inside? Also, normally there aren't many people on the roads so that would reduce all the gas being used. How hard is it to turn off lights? It may not be a big change in stopping global warming but it will add up. Before you go to bed, make sure the lights are turned off. After you finish watching telvision, unplug the Tv. Everyone is getting so hyped up about buying hybrids which would help but that isn't the only thing. Plus, we can't even drive yet. If we could we could all get hybrids but we can't. We can still talk to our parents about getting one if they are looking for a car to buy.
In response to Spider Pig and Ernie- I think another reason that Salt Lake city is so polluted and Florida isn't, is that Salt Lake City is surrounded by mountains, which keeps the smog in, and all the pollution in Florida just blows out to sea.
P.S. Smog is is a mixture of smoke and fog- what Spider Pig was talking about
I do see what you mean but I most definitely would not have thought of that. But why would Salt Lake city be using so much fossil fuels in the first place?
There is all this hype about Hybrid cars, but they are all running on gas at very least half the time, anyway. Plus, I bet most hybrid users run it on gas most of the time.
Hi Phat Mann - I just got this post... My hybrid gets 51mpg - that's all I
know. I can't really determine how much it is running on the batteries and
how much on gas - in town, Montpelier, I know it is just batteries, no gas, because it is so quiet - no engine running. But the rest of the time, you can't really tell as the batteries are capturing the energy from the brakes, the axles turning etc...
What made you think about this?
I don't know... Nerds like me just think about this stuff a lot.
