We have been talking/listening/reading about topics related to geology. The big question is how does the Earth change? This week, let's discuss what we have learned, what we want to learn and questions that we have...

What I have learned about geology is the three minerals that make up granite.I have also learned that how the three types of rocks are made.I want to learn how rocks get to certain colors.Like red,or orange colored rocks.
So far, I have learned a lot in our geology studies, such as: -The fact that there is always ledge underfoot -That the Mad River Valley was once a glacial lake -And the three types of rock and they are made To answer Flanders' question, I think rocks are differt colors because of the minerals in them.
Ms.baker those minerals are feldspar, quarts, and mica.phat mann thats what I thought.I thought that rocks are different colors because of the kinds of minerals in them.
I think the earthchanges in many ways. Not just mountains shifting but pollution and trees being cut down. It's all not just nature that is making things change but humans is also playing a part as well.
Ernie - I like what you are saying about human impact on the Earth. We humans do make a lot of changes happen, don't we? The other changes - geologic changes - are usually slow. Except volcanoes and Earthquakes of course!
Humans change things more quickly - in Montpelier, where I live, there was a rockslide last year that was caused by the changes in the bedrock caused by development. Luckily, no one was hurt.
I kmow. Sometimes you get so focused into one thing (like man-made changes), that you forget about other things (like geologic changes). Also, can I type up my poem instead of writng it on the yellow paper?
I have learned what kind of rock granite is(igneous)and what it is made out of most of the time.(feldspar, quarts, and black mica) I would like to learn mountains are formed and how magma gets inside a volcano.
I have learned very much about the earth this year. About rocks and minerals, continents, and how rocks are formed such as: -how humans are affecting the earth -the composition of granite -how bedrock is always under us -and geological terms like outcrop and bedrock.
what I've leaned in geology is there are so many rocks in the world, but so many similar rocks, so many rocks that are the same. I like the Matamorphic rocks because it's all kinds of rocks that are mixed to gether. Coarse sand stone,Shale stone,Lime stone,Silts stone,Fine sand stone, Conglomerate stone, and Breccia stone are all made from Setamentary rock. I've leaned all the rocks came from a Matamorphic,Igneos.ans Setamentary rock. I agree with Phat mann, about why the rocks are colorful.
I agree with midnight, there are thousands of rocks but lots look alike. I found a rock down at the stream and it was all sandy dust like. Dr. dave said it was either the inside of a rock core or a really old chipped away rock. I never really had an interest in rocks but now i have questions buzzing in my head. how many rocks are there? what colors are certain rocks i have never seen?have all rocks been discovered yet? that is not close to all of my questions. I have learned to like rocks.
Another thing I learned about changing earth is that the containents are moving closer to each other as we speak!!! thay move a centameter every month!!! THAT'S PRETTY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

And what, exactly, are those three minerals, Flanders?
I am also interested in the colors of minerals in rocks and how to identify rocks by color. How do you think you might learn about that?

Whoops! I forgot to space earth and spaces out.

What would happen if a big earthquake split open moretown right now? What would we do?

Midnight - that is a whole lot of rocks!
Ms. Baker

I'm very interset in limestone. because it has the deepsea ceatures from past. I wounder how they got there?
What I have learned about geology is that many many rocks that i thought were just rocks, are actually really old old rocks. :)
I think rocks are so fun to explore decause every rock is diffrent.
One of the things I lerned was that granet is made of three diferent minerals black mica, felspar, quartz.
One of the rocks I think is cool is the mika.
MR.bling, why is your favorite rock the mica?My favorite rock is the telk!
