School Uniforms

Some public schools in the United States have started to require their students to wear school uniforms. What do you think about that? Should Moretown School have a school uniform? Why or Why not?

I don't think we should have to have school uniforms. I think we should be allowed to wear what we want and feel comfortable in. If someone is wearing something totally repulsive that is one thing but I don't see that happening here.

I dont really like the idea of having school uniforms. I think kids should be able to wear whatever they want, as long as it's the (right fit). Meaning that there pants don't just about fall down past their ankles.

I understand why schools want their kids to wear uniforms, but when I think about school uniforms I think about the saying some teachers say. " We can want you to learn but we can MAKE you ." That's just how I much I would
L... O...V...E... to have school uniforms! BAD idea! :(

Oh well I don't think we'll have school uniforms, anytime soooon...!

I don't think we should have to wear uniforms. It would be such a pain in the butt to have to make sure that we have a clean uniform for the next day. If someone wants to wear something that's okay to wear in school, they should be able to.

One of the reasons that schools are starting to have uniforms is that kids make fun of what other kids wear. I don't see a lot of that in our school. So if it ain't broke, why fix it, right?

I do not think we should have school uniforms. We kids should be able to dress differently than other kids.I really do not think kids should have to wear they same thing that other kids wear.Other kids like to be different some times.Or should I say most of the time.

I don't think we should have school uniforms. Kids should be able to wear what they want to wear and it would probably cost the school a loot of money. I aslo agree with pigwiggeon about it being a pain in the butt to clean the same clothes for the next day.

I think it is a bad idea to wear school uniforms. If they were skirts and long sleve shirts thyme would just about die.(me too)I also think we should be able to wear what ever we want. What if someone did not feel comfortable wearing a school uniform. Now you know how much i want a school uniform. Not at all.

One of the things that I have noticed this year is that kids DO comment on each others clothing, and not always in a positive sense.

One of the other reasons given, by those who promote school uniforms, is that it makes the "playing field" even economically. In other words, students who can't afford the latest fads are not at a social disadvantage.

Just some things to think about - I am not promoting school uniforms, but I do see some advantages.

Some of you have brought up the idea of a dress code - that there is no need for a uniform but that clothes need to "fit right" and not be "totally repulsive". I am curious about that...

Even if it does raise school test scores people will eventually start getting annoyed by having to wear the same clothes and not being able to exspress who they really are.

Uniforms raise test scores? Do tell...

What I meant was that in the school uniform article one kid said that kids learn more when they don't just focus on clothing. I think her argument is that you wouldn't spend time picking what to wear.I was just using the test scores as an example but if it is true, what the kid said, i would think test scores would go up. If everyone wore the same thing that might also be distracting. But what if was really cold out? Would you be allowed to wear sweatshirt? Or if it was really hot outside? would you be allowed to change into a tee-shirt and shorts. Those are some ideas to think about.

We shouldn't be forced to wear something if we don't want to. It would bee so depressing to have to wear the same thing each day. If we already have clothes at home, why should we have to buy new ones just for school? That would waste money.

I agree with phat mann why be fixed?

Thanks for the clarification, Ernie. Good test scores are important, but they may not be the most important thing. Lots of people have been thinking about this - how to balance things like this with the idea of personal freedom...

Remember to read all of the posts before you post your own thoughts...

I think we should have school uniforms. School is all about fashion and how people look.

I deffinetly don't think it's a good idea to wear uniforms because it takes away our right to wear the clouths we feel like wearing thats appropriate to wear in school. Becides if we wore uniforms every day of our lives, and say we got a new coat, we wouldn't be able to show our friends what the coat looks like.

Green dragon, yes but it would not be fun having to wear the same looking clouths every single day. It would make life feel boring, and by you saying yes, I gess you want life to be boring. I know I don't want life to be boring, do you?

No, I don't want my life to be boring. Who does? I like living and I have a fun time doing it. I'm not saying that I would die if we had school uniforms but I just wouldn't want them.

I agre with erney,We should not have to be tortured with school uiformes and it would probily be uncunfortabe!

I think that having school uniforms would be a pain to have to put them on. If someone got their uniform dirty at reces and they have soccer or band or something.Doing laundry every day would get a little annoying. If uniforms just solve on how people dress nobody is dressing horrible in this school from what I can see.Having school uniforms would make school a little boring. If we had to do the same thing every day it would be like living in a rut.School uniforms would cost the school a lot of money.Remember living in a rut stinks!!!!!!!!

I still don't like the idea of uniforms. Because I think there not fare to kids, who like who they are, and what they wair. I wouldnt EVER want to wear uniforms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
