Doug Wilhelm will be here on Monday to discuss his book, The Revealers. (Sorry, I couldn't underline the title, I couldn't figure out how to do it in this blog program!) Anyway, what do we want to ask him? What questions do we have about the process of writing the book or the content?
It is an incredible privilege to have an author like Mr. Wilhelm come to our school - let's make it productive by being prepared. :)

I would like to now how Mr. Wilhelm was inspired to write a book like this. Was it just a randomly picked topic, or was it based on something he had seen, heard of, had done to him, or done himself. If so, what is the story behind it? It would not only be an interesting tale, but a chance for us to learn where and how authors get their ideas. It might even inspire one of us to do something about bullying if we see it. We could learn so much, just by asking this one question!
I think it is great idea to have author come to the school to help us see the world of the novolest.
p.s. To be honest I did't know that he was alive no offense.
I am also looking forward to having Mr. Wilhelm at our school. I agree to what pigwidgeon said. I think I saw something at the Revealers site, (the one we used to get homework information from,)that he got the bully lab idea from his son. It came from something with disecting brains. I don't remember what it said, but I will try to find out and post it up on the blog in my next message.
Green Dragon - I liked that you were so honest. I think it is easy for all of us to forget that authors are real and often, still living people. People who get writer's block and still have to figure out other stuff like bus schedules or lunch.
I have this image of writers being in peaceful empty rooms churning out blissful pages - I know it isn't like that, but still, there is this image that comes to mind when you hear the word "writer".

Oops. Not sure why that posted twice...
Sorry -
I would like to know how long it takes a story to go from a writer's mind to the bookstores. Is it a long time, like 5 years, or a short time, like a month? I remember somthing from the website that said he submitted The Revealers to 75 different publishers! Is this typical? I didn't even know there were that many publishing companies!
Mrs. Baker: It looks like we have a new member of Ernie's club of blog redundency.:)
I think this will be a really good expearience for all of us. I also along with many others would like to know what inspired him. i know that when he comes I will have manny questions. I would also like to know what other books Doug Wilhelm has writen and if any of the other books are like this book, the reavealers. i can not wait until he comes. and oh boy 6 foot 10! that is really really really really tall.

I would like to ask him if his sons "bully lab" efected their bullies.
I wonder if the other books Doug wilhelm had writen realate to THE REVEALERS.
I am curious what gave the names to
his chapter. I think about the chapter like double click and refected glory. I would like to learn more about an author life.
I would like to know how he came up with his chararters' names. Are they the names of some of the kids he knew growing up? Are they his son's friend's names? Or did he just come up with them himself?
The characters have fairly odd names, like Catalina, but they suit the personalities well. For insance, Elliott is a nerd in the book, and Elliott is sort of a geeky name.
Sipplehoppetence: Another member of the blog club of redundency club. :) Maybe somthing's wrong with the page.
Can I join your club, Phat Mann? Anyways, Phat Mann is right, when ever I write a story, I always find it hard to come up with names and these are pretty good names that fit the characters well, as Phat Mann rightly said. I think that he got the names of the chapters from the content of tha chapter he was naming at the time green dragon. It would be interesting to see how long it takes for a book to be published. Maybe it depends on how good your story is, or which publisher you bring it to. I wonder who published the Reavelers and some of Wilhelms other books.
I am really wondering why he wrote this book. If it was because of something that happened to him, why write it now. It could be the cause of a sudden inspiration when an idea just hits you...bam! But why now? If it happened to him as a kid why now? But, just as pigwidgeon said, "it could take a while to get it published." Or as Ms. Baker said, "a writers block." these could all be possiblities.
I to think it is a honor. When do a author like Mr.Wilhelm come to see us about his book.I agree with phat mann It takes me a little bit finding out names. But I got to give credit Mr.Wilhelm came up with some pretty impressive names. One thing I would like to know where did he get the idea of throwing Elliot of a bridge. He could have made Elliot been pushed into a pole.
p.s. phat mann can I join your club?
It must be hard writing a book!!! I could not ever do
it! Or could I? I also want to know how he came up with the names. Bullying happens to everyone and in is a good thing to know about.
I think it would be interesting on how he came up with the plot of his story. It was a little confusing through it all.But in the end he did wrap it up very well.I agree with you ernie why did he write this story. When I am writing a story a idea just pops in my head.Maybe that is what happened to him.We won't know until Monday.green dragon you aren't the only one.I thought j.r.r Tolkien was still alive.I wonder how long it would take to write this book.First he said he got information from kids in school.then he has to write. Then he waits for it to get published. It must be annoying for authors stories that don't get there books published.I mean you put a lot of effort to write a book but it won't get published. That would get me annoyed.
In this book I really like how Mr. Wilhelm wrote from a child's perspective. I know how hard it is for me to write from an adult's or girl's perspective, but of course, I haven't been an adult yet, and Doug Wilhelm has been a kid. However, for some adults, it seems like they were never kids themselves. :)
Green Dragon and Flanders- I often make that mistake, too. However, this book includes computers and the internet, so I know it can't have been written that long ago.
Flanders and Pigwideon- You can join the blog club of redundency club. Membership is free. There is no charge.
Phat man, I think your right about it being hard to write from a kids or adults perspetive. Its hard for me to write from someones prespective so thats why I tend not to. If I can I would like to get his autograph. I noticed no said that.
Flanders and Green dragon-I thought Brian Jacaues was dead.
I think someone said that they were wondering how long it takes to get a book pudlished, well my mom illistrating abook and her friend is writing. They started about a year ago and i still isn't published.
I can't wait till Doug Wilhelm comes!! I wander if he's really as tall as people say he is? Or is that his son? I really want to ask him when he used to get bullied, did he ever get hurt like Eliot????
Well.... probrably not that extremly, but still I wonder.
tini:)
ps.
I HAVE NOOOOO... IDEA WHY THAT SAID ANONYMOUS!!!???!!!
Tini, I don't think his son is the taal one, I think Doug Wilhelm.
Hi everyone - great discussion, as it continues, try to form questions that you, yourself, will ask if they are not answered in Mr. Wilhelm's presentation. For example, Flanders could ask: Have you written any books that have not been published? I think that would be interesting to find out - I am guessing that he has, but I wonder what they were about?
What we want to avoid are the questions that are already answered on his website - if at all possible.
Phatman: I loved and adored the redundant, repetitive club invitation. :)
I meant tall not taal.
I also can't wait untill Doug wilhelm comes to school! I wonder if he is being bullied now from the same people or different people?
I think that his book is a really good book! Ithink that he has more of those non - fiction books,we should read some more.
Thank you for complimenting the Blog Club of Redundecy Club favorably. I appreciated your comment. Your comment was very much appreciated.
I get it. But I thought Mr. Wilhelm was only 6'5", but I guess I was wrong. I believe he has around 13 books out and I wonder how long that took. I mean, look at us. We write about 4-5 pages for our three week writing. But for him, his books are around 210 pages, that would take a long time. And then all the publishing and editing.
I along with many others am looking foward to having doug at our school. Ernie is right. He writes about 4 times as much as we do in a day! I think this will be really fun having an author come to your own classroom. some people wish that we hada million dillars but others wish for world pace and others wish for doug wilhelm to come to your school. I don't just want to know questions like how long was your longest book? I want to know, what inspired you to write? why did you choose to write kid books? do you write grown up books to? How long have you been working for? I really want to know what questions interest me and will help on the quiz. (if ms. Baker gives us one.) This is a good experence for us and I hope we will learn alot from him. He said he was 6-10! That is a foot and 7 inches taller that me! I bet the first thing everyone will say will be wow! I might be mistaken though. This monday will be so great.
Phat man the name catalina might be a strange name to you but Ive heard it so many times. I like that Doug Wilhelm made Catalina from the philippians. I wonder if he knew any one who was from the philippians or if his son knew anyone?
I also would like to learn about how Doug Wilhelm and how he wrote the book. Did he have to do a lot of research? Or did he just make it up??????
I would like to know why Doug Whilhelm wrote the book The Revealers.I think it would be a little absord if a kid got dropped a bridge, but I think that Mr.Wilhelm wrote the book to show how bad bullieng is in schools.
Spider pig, yes Doug Wilhelm could have wrote it as a story to show how bad bulliing is or as good story for kids. I could ask him that.
I agree with pigwidgeon in the 2nd. sentence when he said that
"was it just a randomly picked topic?"
I also want to ask him..... how he got all the great ideas for the book?????
:) tini
I want to ask Doug how he got all the ideas too. I thought the book was great!
