We have a new chef at Harwood this year. What do you think about the new menu choices? Are there things that you especially like? Dislike? One difference is that there are "localvore" days - and I would like to know what you think about that...
Remember, it is easy to criticize, but much harder to provide solutions, so when you comment, try to be as positive as possible, and when you do have something negative to express, be sure to accompany the statement with a reasonable solution.

I for one like the school lunches this year better than last year. The "localvore" lunches are tasty and I have noticed that we have pizza every Thursday. Although, that trend was broken because of Valentines Day.
I miss the mozzarella sticks but I like the macaroni and cheese better this year also.
I don't get hot lunch very often, but when I do, it is much better than last year. The pizza is my favorite, especially BBQ chicken.
The one thing I might suggest is larger portions. I know that the lunches legally can only have so many calories or something, but many kids get hungry right after lunch, and aren't quite as sharp as they might be during the rest of the day.
I think the hot lunches better than last year but as Ernie said I too miss the mozzarella sticks but are better. I like the pulled pork sandwiches so that kind of makes up for the mozzarella sticks.
I think the "localvore" day was a good decision.
Phat Mann I too like the BBQ chicken pizza but I do not like the onions the come with it so I usually just get the cheese pizza instead.

So far, the reaction to "localvore" lunches have been positive - what does it mean that a lunch is "local" and why would that be important? What does it do for the community? The world?
My favorite addition to the menu this year is the apple crisp.
And it comes on Localvore day, which means CHICKEN! One thing that I am personally opposed to is the fact that the only sandwich this year is peanut butter and jelly. Of course I completely understand why they would chose that as the main sandwich. Because almost everybody in the school except me doesn't mind peanut butter. But on days when there's bag lunch, and the only thing you can get is sandwich, I really think that there should be an alternative choice.
Pigwidgeon you are right I do not like peanut butter but I have what is served in the bag lunch. I also think there should be more of a choice in the lunch.
I think the "localvore" days means that we are supporting local farms that are having troubles with feed or whatever they need to stay in the business. "Localvore" days also make sure the that since we are not having as much shipping we can slow down global warming.

I don't get the school lunches very often. I, personally, think there isn't a big change in the taste. I also think that there should be larger portions. I've seen a lot of kids who got school lunches that had three or two different things on the trays.
I, like many others, think that the "localvore" day was a good decision because I don't have a lot of local food that we eat at our house. I know my mom really likes "localvore" day because she trys to have us(me and my brothers) have the school lunches on "localvore" day.

ernie, i feel for you i miss the cheese sticks too. i wish that we got them back. i dont know what localvore lunches are but they sound GROSS. i wish that we had pizza every other week and tuna boat the other week on thursday. that is because the pizza is getting old.
I am the opposite of phat mann I get hot lunch a lot.I think they really have improved.But I do miss the mozzarella sticks.One of the things I like is the apple crisp.I like the barbecue pizza but having it every week it gets a little sickening.I think we should have a different thing everyday.That is just my opinion.

Localvore lunches boost the state economy. This is true because all of the food that is in those lunches are from local farms, hence 'localvore'. It boosts the circulation of money throughout the community. If I pay a farmer from Norway for a chicken, for instance. I am passing money to someone where it will never have an impact on my life. But, if I decide to buy a couple eggs from a farmer here in the valley, that money could be donated to a local charity or even in some way returned to me.
localvore food is from places neer around. I personally do not like it. I do like the potatoes and I do like the pizza and salad bar. One thing I do like is tacos and I do wish we could have that more often. I like mac n cheese.
Harry Plopper I don't agree with you. I like having pizza on thursday because it is easy to remember and you can never have to much pizza!
Some of my new favorite things are the macncheese and,the apple crisp on localvor day!!!
I don't like the PB&Js! I always love localvor day! I am picky about my food. I think we need more bread with our Food! I love bread!!!
I love pizza you can never got rong that espically every thursday! mmmmmm yummy. I honistly don't like the PB&J sanwiches. the foods I do like are the mozzarella, the macaroni and cheese, the potato bar. And trust me, I am very picky about what I eat. I can't believe they took away the popcorn-shimp, that was really good. sorry to say but I think the school lunch hasn't inproved very much, I know what your thinking but like I sayed, I am very picky. The thing that I don't like about PB&J's is that the bread is to wet with jelly. Well I do think the lunch has inprooved but only a little, bring back the popcorn-shrimp!
I really really like the tacos and popcorn shrimp. I don't really like the PB&J but what I do like is the pizza every thursday! But the thing is one pizza doesn't fill me up, I think we should have two pizzas
I'm not sure if I like the school lunch better this year or last year. Because I like things from last year and this year better. I liked the three cheese macaroni better than the chedder, and I miss Tuna Boats!!!!
I guess the lunch's are okay..... but I think the their trying to make to healthy!

In my opinion, I really like what the new chef is trying to do. Kids have always hated school luches, just like adults don't like taxes. Even if some of the meals aren't your favorite, just remember that school lunches are school lunches, for goodness sake! Be lucky at least some of the meals are edible. That's what the new chef is trying to do, and I like it.
I agree with simpleahoppatense the pizza is really really good but not very filling. I think we should get two pieces of pizza. I also think the apple crisp should be surved with a small scoop of ice cream.

To daphne, who doesn't love ice cream? Also I like that idea, as someone may have mentioned before, on the blog or in class discussions, people get very hungry around lunch time. Two servings may be good but one and a half could be even better.
I personally really like the localvore meals.They have been pretty tasty.I think we should have a desert every localvore meal.That would make it a good meal.Not that it wouldn't be good meal already.phat mann to your question We should have a larger portion.The other thing would be to have another snack.But that is a waste of time.

Yes Ernie. We have apple crisp with localvore, which I think is the best dessert. Another thing that I like better about this year is the fact that we have BBQ pizza instead of pepperoni. The only thing bad about them is that they have onions. Onions are veggies! If we wanted them we would have asked for veggie. It's just a cheap way to try and get us to eat our vegetables. But you can still pick them off if your determined not to eat them (like me).
I do wish that we had dessert as often as last year though.
phat man- Just like you said, most of the kids hated the school lunches, but I noticed that the kids that said that almsot always got the school lunches. So I have a question, the people that did that, did they not get up early enough or what?

I do like how we get two chocolate milks a week, as long as we have fruit. I like the fruit too!

I agree with pigwidgon the apple cripse and bbq pizza are great.
But I wish he would make key lime pie.
I like the school lunch better this year but sometimes I think things could change a little like having pizza ever thursday.I tink we should not have pizza every thursday It would be great if we could lower it down to two thursday of the month leaving room for something we haven't had in a while like the tuna boat.

Bid T I seriously dissagree about the pizza. Daphane I do like the idea of the ice cream on the apple crisp ymmmmm I can tast it now :) but on salad bars I think we should get back the crutons.
I don't exactly like the pulled pork, it smells kind of good but it tast sort of bad. I agree with tini, more fruit would be nice
