I think that the diary of a wimpy kid is a very exciting and is a book that is appropriate for the kids in 3rd and 4th grade. The diary of a wimpy kid is appropriate for 5th and 6th grade too. The book is very funny too and i think that a lot of other people and kids in the 3rd, 4th,
5th and 6th should read this book.
I am reading a book called Kira-Kira and am almosdt done with it. The title has to do with a girl named Suki.(I think) Her older sister Lin tought her her first word. Kira Kira. Suki uses the word to explain everything. The clouds, the ski, and most of all, she uses it to explain her sister Lin. Kira-Kira means beautiful in Japanese. Suki loves where she lives and when she goes somewhere she will cry unless she is not with Lin. But then the family moves.Everything starts to change.
I have not read Diary of a Wimpy kid but one of my friends has. She says it was very funny! Right now at home I am weading Rules. I think it is a good book so far.
Sorry to tell you Daphne, I don't like rules. It is just a book I didn't like much and there are many reasons. For one, it talks to much about her feelings and I don't like those books. The book I am reading right now is called Peter and the Shadow Thieves. I think it is a great book the way the authors write it. Every chapter in this book is from a different point of view.
This book, is the second book in the Peter and the Starcatcher series. It is about a boy(Peter)who is on a island with his friends,a Indian tribe, and pirates. When a strange hooded man, comes seeking for a trunk with unbelievable powers. When Peter finds out his other friend is in trouble with this man.He goes on a dangerous mission to London, to find his friend, and seek the secrets behind this man.
But I encourage you to read the first book of this series first to make sure you know what is going on.
I really like the adventure in this book. But I hate that Peter always keeps on getting caught. But you have to imagine a 12 year old boy in London, would get into a lot of trouble.
Flanders, I have never heard of the book called peter and the shadow thieves. The book peter and the shadow thieves sounds like it could be a good one.
Diary of a wimpy kid is a very funny book but is not a diary it is a book that you hear the main characters adventures from the day. Today we read that the main character played a game with his best friend that they played with the new big wheel that they got from christmas. they where out side when they where playing and the main character throgh a foot ball in the road and the other character tripped over it on the big wheel and the other character got thrown off the big wheel.
Harry Plopper, I have skimmed through Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and agree that it is an entertaining book. However, the book that I am currently reading is, in my opinion, much more interesting. It is called The Rangers Apprentice.
12-year old Will, an orphan living in medieval times, was kept from being the apprentice at battleschool that he had always wanted to be, because of his underdeveloped height. He is however, accepted to learn the ways of the rangers, the intelligence corps of the kingdom. He learns to disguise himself with his background, wield a bow and arrow, and befriends a faithful, steadfast horse named Tug.
The story is quick paced and well written, making it hard to put down. I strongly suggest it to anyone who likes to read stories with action, mystery, and humor on an adventurous plot.
Hmmmm...
that sounds interesting and really good Pigwigeon. I tried the Wimpy Kid but it was not my kind of book. Have any of you tried Before We Were Free? It is on the DCF list and one of the best books I have read. it is aged for seventh and eighth graders but once you get into it it gets more and more interesting and understanding.
I, too, have read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and found it extremely funny. It also has a sequel, "Roderick Rules." It is basically juct a continued version of the first book, and is just as funny.
One book that I am reading right now is called Football Genius. It is about an 11-year-old kid named Troy, who has the ability to predict football plays before they happen. He lives outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and he tries to convince his local NFL team, the Falcons, to let him help them win, by guessing what plays the other team will run.
However, the head coach of the team doen't like having a kid tell him what to do, so he doesn't take the help that could win him every game. But, with the help of star linebacker Seth Halloway, and his freinds Tate and Nathan, Troy finally gets his dream.
If you like sports, and are interested in the inner workings of a football team, this book is for you. The author played in the NFL, so you can trust this book is extremely realistic, as well as well writen.
Man sounds like Diary Of A Wimpy Kid sounds really popular, I have not read it but it sounds funny. Phatt Mann I have not read Football Genius but it sounds good but I am not into sports books.
I have just started well not even started the second "Bone" book but the fist one was a very funny graphic novel. I also happen to be reading "A Series Of Unfortunate Events The Hostile Hospital" it is a very good book and it is 8 or 9 of the misfortune. I just finished my follow up on the play we saw " My6 Haret In A Suitcase", the after word was very sad. I just can not figgure out why Adolf would blam the loss of world war one on the jewish peoples but you can not fix the past and hopefully it will never happen again.
'Before We Were Free' sounds like a good book. I'd like to read it but I'm to busy reading three other books. My record is seven.
I'm reading The Outcast of Redwall.
Its very adventurous and hard to put down, at least for me. It's about a badgar named, Sunflash the Mace, who was taken prisoner by Swart Sixclaw, a fiend of a ferret with a paw with six claws (thus Sixclaw). Its the fifth in a series of nineteen. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a book.
Just to warn you, there's some murder and deathes in it.
I'm also reading The Wizard of Oz and Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl. But I'll keep those for other posts.
Hi all - I am enjoying reading your comments and appreciate reading your insights into the books you are reading. One word of caution: Avoid making negative comments about what other people are reading - if they are reading the book on their own time, than we can assume that they are enjoying the book and though you may have your opinion, this isn't the right forum. Please make your connections positive and focus as much as possible on your own book. When you write a review of a particular book, then I DO want to hear all the negative stuff too and, of course, you can certainly point out the negative aspects of the book that you are reading.
OK - carry on - lecture over. ;)
Ms. Baker
Spider pig, I think that you should read diary of a wimpy kid because in is a knee slapper.
I think that we all should read Diary of a Wimpy kid because I think that Mrs. Baker would get a kick out of it.
Harry Plopper, I'm not going to try and say that, I have read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and it doesn't really go anywhere. It's a fun book and very hard to put down, but I won't say it is great literature though it is entertaining.
I am reading a book about Ted Williams, called Waiting for Teddy Williams. It takes place in vermont where a kid named E.A. (Ethan Allen) loves the game of baseball. And then a Ted Willimas comes outand teaches the kid everything he knows about baseball. I'm not very far but I like it, even though it is about a Red Sox player.
Harry Plopper, I think you have convinced me to read Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.One other book, I am almost done with, is The diary of Anne Frank. It is not a book, I would suggest.Unless, you would want to know what this young girl hade to go through during World War 2.
Flanders, I agree. I wouldn't suggest it either. I think thats what you meant.
I haven't said my part about Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I thought it's a very funny, hard to put down book.
Some parts were boring after reading it twice, but I understood it better. I have a question, has anyone read Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules. Its just as funny as the first.
The other book I'm reading, The Wizard of Oz, is a LOT different from the movie(like most movies).
I assume you all know the story, but to tell you what the book is like. Its about a young girl named Dorothy, shes younger than the girl in the movie. When she lands in Munchkin land and kills the Wicked Witch of the East, only the Good Witch of the North, two male munchkins and a female munchkin greet her. The slipers that Dorothy recieves are acually SILVER. I wont tell you everything I read because:
1) I would probably bore you.
2) I don't want this to go on for to long.
I would deffinatley suggest this to anyone.
Unlike you flanders, I'm pretty far from finishing Anne Frank.
I have heard rumors that the story of the Wizard of Oz differs from the movie, but never actually read it. But I wouldn't start reading it right now for the world,
because the Rangers Apprentice is getting really good. All I can tell you is that young Will meets a lot of people, learns a lot of things, and has an unfortunate run-in with a wild boar. And the best part is, it's part of a series, which means sequels.
I would suggest that you read it at snack ms. Baker, although I need to finish it to make sure that the end is as appropriate as the beginning. I think it will be, but you can never be to careful. It would be a good book to miss out on.
Thank you for the tip on the Rangers Apprentice so I may read it but it sounds good and a run in with a wild boar it sound like it could not end well. I was right when I guessed that the second Bone was going to be funny for example: When Fone Bone goes to get honey to prove someone that he is sorry that he was rude he tries to get honey but does not take his new enemy's advice that the bees are too big. They are bigger than he thought, they well it was three times his size but he prevails.
I have heard many remarks and thoughts about the book Bone but I have not read it yet. I don't think it interests me very much. If I keep hearing GOOD remarks about this book (referring to Bone) I might try it. I just started bloomabitity (I think that is how you spell it) and so far it is pretty good. I was going to try it a while ago but I was all ready in the middle of an other book. An escuse because right now I am in the middle (literally) of five books.
To be honest like both funny and advener book.I think of it as my book style. I mean who dosen,t like those type of books.
I do agree that some movies do stray pretty far from some of the details of original books, but I understand that sometimes movie makers often need to alter the length or specifics of the film in order to make it more pleasing to the eye.
Ernie, if you are interested in Ted Williams, You may also want to read his autobiography "My Turn at Bat." I recently finished it and found it quite interesting.
Phatt mann, wat is "My turn at bat" about, i does sound interesting. I am also reading the book called "The diary of the wimpy kid".It is about a kid named Greg (I foregot his last name, and the book is written so it looks like someone had wrote it, not typed up. It's basiclly about a seventh grader, and it tells about his life. It is pretty funny, like when he signed up to be the comedian of the newspaper, that was a pretty funny part of the book. It also has comic strips which makes it even more funnier.
Yes, since I am in Midnight's group, ( were we are reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid.) I am also reading this book.
I also like the part were he tries out for the comic section. What happens is to get the "job" he had to make comic strips, and who evers was funniest got the job. My favorite of Greg's comic's is, the joke that says " doctor, can you give me a new butt, mine has a crack in it." I thought that was really funny!
I'm also reading "The Upstairs Room." It's okay, I geuss. It's a little boring, but It's also a lot to take in.
Tini, The Upstairs Room gets better. As for Phatt Mann, movies usually do differ to books, as you said. I do like the Ted Williams book that I am reading, but it gets a bit confusing. I'm not that far, maybe 30-35 pages into it and couldn't tell you much of what has happened. And like Kidderkizvaagan siaid, I would probably bore you. I have read the Wizard of Oz, or Mrs. Clemons read it to us two or threes ago. It is a lot different but most of all, the end. has maybe 1/4 of the book which wasn't in the movie. And yes, I have read Diary of a Wimpy kid: Rodrick Rules.
ernie I have not read the diary of a wimpy kid but from what I hear it is a good book. I am reading listen and I think so far it has been a pretty good book. Though it can get a little boring at times I encourge people who have not read it to read this book. What really suprised me was that the dog in listen a chow-german shepherd is the same dog that I have.
big t I think I might read Listen, but I think I will read the jacket first.I remember when somebody told me to read a book that they thought was good, well it was bad.I think the next book I am going to read is Peter and The Secret of the Rundoon. It is the last book in the Peter, and the Starcatchers series, and from the jacket it sounds good. One book I would suggest other people to read, is All of the Above. It is written so each chapter is a new person talking, but it has a good story going a long with it.It is also educational.
flanders, All of the Above, it does sound good,What is it about, or what are the stories about? I didn't like the spider story that Mrs.Baker read to us today. I am terrified of them, i could not imagine huge spiders, or I'd have night-mares. I can't even think of those big giant spiders.
Flanders, I've heard so much from you about " All of the Above" I might just give it a try.
Another book i like is "Heartbeat" it's a really good book! The pages are written like poems, ( not poems ) but written like that.
The other thing I like about "Heartbeat" is that it takes like two minutes to read. It has like, almost 2oo pages, but there all short. Mr. bling also likes this book too, he say's he's read it like 5 times..... me to. :)
Flanders, yes Listen is a good book although I agree to what Big T said about it getting boring at times. Tini, I, like Flanders, also encourage you to read All of the Above. It is a very good book and would have gotten my vote if Alabama Moon was not on the DCF list. I have not read heartbeat but probably will, although I ave other books that I'm now reading. (Trust me, Waiting for Teddy Williams isn't the only one.) I am reading a book about Greek myths which I enjoy. The Lightning Thief, is a book that I do agree we should read except that if you don't know much about Greek mythology, or like it, you might not enjoy this book.
sometimes I belive that book imspire people to belive that they can do anything they set there minds to. also book can do great thing no matter who they are.
Greendragon, i think that too, some books, they kind of get you so in to it,that(well say that the main charicter is a deffence attorney) and you think that that's pretty cool, so your inspired and you want to be an deffence attorney.
I think listen is a really discriptive book and sometimes it is a little to discriptive. For example everything that comes in contact with the main character has to have two full pages of disciption and that can be very anoying. Flanders I am not sure if you would like this book but try it is a good book.
Big T, I have noticed that some books go a little heavy on the discription. However, I would think that a book having too much detail is better than a book having too little detail. Then, the reader would be confused as to who was who and which people were friends of the reader main character, and which were enemies. Maybe, if you are just at the start of the book, the author is trying to develop the characters and lay out the plot. Some books are sort of slow to get started.
I am reading Alabama Moon agian be cause it is my favorate book. I think that if you like a book a lot it is ok to read it agian. The group that I am in has already finished Diary Of A Wimpy Kid too. The naxt book we are reading is Diary Of A Wimpy kid two. If Kiderkids... is write it should be pretty funny.
Mr.Bling
Anonymous, I also like to reread books that I enjoyed. As I said I am reading Rules and I am also reading The Upstairs Room.
As many of you already know, The Upstairs Room is about a Jewish girl and her family who lives in Holland during World War II. Annie (the girl) and her family must hide because people are now hurting jewish people in holland too. Annie's father hides somewhere and Annie and her two sisters must go and stay with the Hannink family but the oldest refuses to go because she must take care of their sick mother in the hospital. The two girls stayed with the Hanninks until it was too dangerous. Then they went to stay with the Oostervelds on their farm.
This is a great book so Far! I can't wait to hear what will happen!!!
