I dont know anything about the ancient greek gods and godesses.
I hope that i learn somthing about each one. I want to learn about the main god or the most important, strong and the most powerfullgod or the ancient greek godesses.
I think that zeus is the most powerfull god, if he is a god.
I would really like to have poseidon as a friend because I love to go in the water and it would be really fun to have poseidon as a father or friend becaus then if you went swimming and then ran into a shark it would not hurt you. I also think it would be really fun to have athena to be my friend becuse she has the power of invisabitity and I think that that would be really cool to go around and be invisable because you would be able to do many tricks and scare people or just when your parent gets mad that you broke a plate you can make youe self invisable and then only your sister or brother would be at home and it would look like it was fun. but I also think being friends with one of these powerful people is a danger because you can start thinking to much of yourself, use these powers on the god or godess himself and then...
yikes, your hopeless.
I would also like to be friends with Zeus because sense he has power over all the gods it would be a lot of fun to see whaty he does to them in his spare time. But I think that anyone who is lucky enough to meet any of these gods is awsome.
Mmmm, who I want as a friend? Well I would want Atheana to be my friend because she is really smart, and i would want to be poesidont because I have always wanted to live in the water, and it would be so cool if i could breath under water and talk to sea creatures. About the myths, I know it sounds crazy but i only know two myths, or thats as much as I can remember. I remember a little about, I think it was Hadies, but I dont really know but he had something to do with a girl and he traped her and she only ate Pomagranites.
Yes Harry,
Zeus is a god, remember? you should know something because we watched a movie. but anyway, I think that there is not a; "most powerful god" (as you put it) I think it depends because would'nt they be the most powerful if they all worked together?
oppppps! I ment to post first but Harry posted before me.
Oops, Me Hayy Plopper, and Simpheahopitence posted around the same time. And sorry for the misspelled words
and midnight
sorry I ment Harry Plopper and sipleahoppatense. I was typing upsidedown.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, not invisibility. That was just Annabeth’s magic item. It would be cool to have Poseidon as a friend, because the whole breathing under water thing. The myth that you are probably thinking about Midnight is the one about Hades and Persephone. Persephone was the goddess of springtime, and the daughter of Demeter. Hades captured Persephone and made her is unloving wife. She stays down in the underworld in the winter and up regularly in the spring/summer. My favorite god is probably Apollo. But, I don't like when he is only described as the god of music and light. He is the brother of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, so he is also crafty with a bow and arrow. Apollo is also the god of prophecy. So naturally, my favorite myth would be about him right? Well, sort of. It is actually more about Hermes. Hermes is the god of travels, thievery, and a messenger. When Hermes was a baby, he stole Apollo's red cows. Apollo, being the god of music, didn't care about his red cows nearly as much as music but when he discovered them missing he was furious. He stormed into the cave where Hermes was pretending to sleep. But Apollo knew it was just an act. He demanded to Hermes tell him where the cows were. Hermes told him, but when he counted there were two missing. He confronted Hermes yet again and Hermes played beautiful music on his lyre. Apollo, being the god of music loved the tune so much that he demanded to have the lyre. Hermes drove a hard bargain, wanting the cows and a wand. Apollo agreed. The one goddess I would hate to have as my enemy is Athena. It would be cool to have her as a friend but if she were angry with you she would find a way to get back. Speaking of Athena, another one of my favorite myths is about her. Athena, or Minerva by Roman name, is the goddess of wisdom. But she is also the goddess of the loom. One day, mortal women named Arachne boasted that her weavings were amazing, which they were. But when someone asked where she thought she stood in comparison to Athena, she said she was superior. Now, gods, or goddesses, are very proud. So when someone boasts that they can do something better than they can they get angry. Athena, who unlike Hera was not a very jealous god, changed into a crone and went down to earth. Sorry, Athena changed into a crone earlier and asked Arachne about her weaving skill. Anyway, When Arachne called herself better, the crone changed back into Athena. Athena challenged Arachne and won. Arachne wove a beautiful tapestry of spiders, which is how spiders got the name "arachnids". Arachne was then changed into a spider.
Wow... of cource Zeus is a god!!!! You should defenetly know that since we were reading a book that was talking about how Zeus is one of the three head gods.
I don't really have a favorite out of the gods, but later I might have one.
All this greek stuff is kind of cool. I thought it would be boring. But not yet!!
Well, Zeus is the most powerful. Zeus does strike fear in all the gods. Except there is one who strikes fear in Zeus. It is his wife, Hera. Hera is the goddess of marriage so Zeus is her only husband. Zeus on the other hand, has lots of wives. This makes Hera jealous. So, Hera's symbol is peacock feathers. Zeus fears Hera's fits of temper and if you thought this untrue all you need to read is to Io myth.
To be honesty I always thought were about the elements you know fire, water, earth, wind, ice, darkness, and light. Also I think mrs,Baker should read the sequle of the lighting thief.
Ernie didn't Hera play nasty as in mean tricks on on Zeus's side girlfriends? I believe so. Oh and green dragon if you liked the first book to Percy Jackson And The Olympians (The Lighting Thief) you'll love the second in the series, The Sea Of Monsters.
Well my top two favorite gods would have to be Poseidon and Apollo as does ernie. I would probally like to be the son or a freind of Poseidon, as most of you who posted way before me, to have the water abillities of a super human: To braeth under water, talk to locals (fish), swim super fast , and all that cool stuff.
I would like pan as a friend also because he could make all natural stuff and would possibly let me talk to animals.
So you guys get the idea. :*)
Yes Spider pig, Hera did play nasty tricks on Zeus's side girlfriends. One story is when Zeus changed his girlfriend into a cow to protect her from Hera. But Hera caught the girl and had a man with hundreds of eyes on his body(I can't remeber his name) to watch over her. But somehow the hundred eye man died. Hera had sympathy and put his eyes on her favorite animal, the peacock. So that kinda explains why Hera's symbol is the peacock, and why the peacock has a lot of "eyes" on its tail.
I don't have a favorite god yet, but if I had to chose one right now, I would probably pick Pan for the same reasons as Spider Pig.
I would like to be friends with either Zeus, Posidean, or Hades, or even better, all three. I would like to be their friends because they were the 'big 3' and it would probably be a good idea to be on their good side.
I like studying the Greeks(again). For two reasons:
1)I get to learn about more then the Gods and Goddesses.
2)I get to learn more about the Gods and Goddesses.
And let me guess:
3) I get to learn more about gods and goddesses.
I htink that I would want to be friends with Hermes, god of travel. For one thing, he would be handy when your going to Florida on vacation. If you miss your flight, you can just ask him for a fling sandal (to make sense of that, read the entire description of him). I also like him because it said that he had a good sense of humor, but could also vanquish giants when he needed to. He was very friendly and helpful as well.
Well Hermes is the god of thievery too, which isn't a good thing. The myth that kidderkizvaagan told you was the one about Io, that I had mentioned earlier. The name of the hundred eyed man was Argus. He died because Apollo appeared as a traveler to him and told him a long, and boring story, with no beginning and no end. Argus listened because watching Io was even more boring work. Slowly, his eyes began to close, and after a while, none were left open. Apollo touched him with his magic wand, the one that Hermes had taken from him, (this myth was before then)and Argus didn't open his eyes anymore.
Ernie, it's Pigwidgeon don't you think that he is hiding that part so the he try to steal a FBI uniform talk to the possible repulblic president?! Or not.
In conection to kidarkitzvaagaangangan I waould wan't all the olympians on my side so they would not try to " Turn You In To A Dolfin." The Lighting Theif from no other than Dyonnisis. But I would really like to be on Athena's side for she could get some good revenge.
Yes Spider Pig, It would be nice to have all the Olympians on your side. The only bad part about that is that in a lot of storys of the gods, there known to get angry easily. I don't think I ever heard about Hermes haveing a bad temper, so, you made a good decision Pigwigeon.
One god that gets to me is Dionysus.I have learned that he was raised by his father Zeus and was given to Hermes.Pigwidgeon Hermes was consider the prankster of the gods. What I have learned Hermes did not have much of a temper. The one thing I never knew before we watched that movie is Zeus is the most powerful god.I thought Poseidon,Zeus, and Hades. But Zeus split the world up for his brothers to control.Big S I also would want Poseidon as a friend for you would never have to be scared about going in the water.Plus you get to breath under water.I learned Zeus was Cronus's last child.I would want Apollo as a friend because he controls the sun(which I would want)Plus he could heal any wounds.Which I think is a very useful power.
Hermes, does have a smaller temper than the other gods, (Zeus) but he is known to pull tricks like you said. Spider pig, about his record, I think your plan requires too much work. The Olympians do get angry easily and they end up blowing up things. Although he was the youngest, Kronos was the lord of the titans. He cut up his father Ouranous, with his scythe. He had then heard a prophecy, that one of his sons would eventually overthrow him. So, he swallowed the sons and daughters. Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, Hestia, and two others were swallowed when his wife gave birth to Zeus. His wife did not want Zeus to be eaten so instead she gave him a rock and wrapped it in baby clothes. Kronos ate that thinking it was the real boy. Zeus was hidden in a cave and nursed by nymphs and a mama goat. Spirits were placed by the cave clanging their armor which made such a racket, that the crying of baby Zeus was drowned out by all the noise. Zeus knew that if he to overthrow his father, we would need help. Kronos was given this magic herb thinking it would make him invincible, but really, it only made him throw up the six children. Zeus overthrew Kronos, cut him up with his own sickle, and cast him off to Tartarus.
ernie I was thinking about posting about Zeus but you did. Thanks a lot.I think Hercules was a good hero. But he went through a painful time.He cummited a greatful crime. For that he had to do 12 tasks to be forgiven. He had it hard, but he had amazing strenghth.I would want Artemis on my side because she is god of hunt and she could find food for me when I need food.A very grateful power.
You know it weird. I mean why Is Cronos the father of gods is the bad guy. Why did he go bad. And what was his purpise as a god and Why is he the leader of the titans.
I don't know. It does seem odd that the father of such powerful beings could have gone wrong. Or perhaps it is the other way, and we just see the situation as it was told. Maybe Cronos and the titans were good, and the 12 Olympians were evil, and conquered. Maybe we just see it from the wrong side. Now THAT, is thinking outside the box.
I think that I would like to have Poseidon for the reasons that many before me have stated. But for another one as well. My favorite way to swim is underwater in a clear, ten-foot-deep river, gently being pulled along in the current. If I could breathe underwater, I could do that all day. But don't get me wrong. I don't just want to be friends with him because of his power. I'm sure that he's a great guy and friend. It's just that being pals with him would hold some awesome advantages.
Really there isn't a good or a bad side.It is really we think the good side is the one we route for,and the bad side is the side we route against.Really weird how it all works out.I just read about Atlas(a Titan god)and he rebelled against Zeus.To me that would be a bad idea.To me Hera seems like a good god to have n your side. She is expected to be queen of the gods so she has power. One god I have never heard of before is Hephaestus. He is god of fire, metalworking, stonemasonry. But in his pictures he looks like a poor man riding down the street. In his picture he is riding a donkey, with a hammer and tongs.Demeter I would want as a friend because he is the god of grain, bread, and agriculture.Without her I don't know how humans could survive.Plus was known as the goddess of the earth.Really you would want all the gods/goddesses on your side.Plus with each power they posses they keep the earth running as it is on the earth today. Greeks think outside the box and believe in gods.but I guess they pick ed it up from other religions.I wonder where believing in gods all started.
Flanders, I have no idea where believing in gods and goddesses came from, but I have a question, is there a story about how Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades became the three important gods? And how did Hades become god of the underworld,Poseidon, god of water, and Zeus god of everything?
Midnight I am not sure exactly but I think that they had a fight and zeus won so he got first pick and poseidon was next and he picked the sea and hades was left with the leftovers. I think the two top gods that I would like to meet would be hades and ares I didn't pick ares because I like war it was well the way that he was described in the lightning thief made me want to really meet him. I picked hades because I actually think that he could give me writing tips but I most of all I would like to meet him so we could be friends and he could make arrangements for me to meet any deceased person of my choosing.
Big t I am not to shore that I would want to meet hades because he is the ruler of the under world. I would however like to meet Athenia godess of wisdom.
Her temple is located in Athens. If I were to study a specific thing about Ancient Greece I would probably study a god or a godess.
Daphne I think that it would be to nice to meet any god at all I did not pick poseidon because I do not really like water so much. I think zeus would be to busy I mean like he is the god or I should say ruler of everything but I like the way that the gods were in the empire state biulding I thought that was a good deal of creativaty.
I am enjoy studying Ancient Greece and so far my favorite thing we have learned about is the gods and godess of Ancient Greece. Big T I agree with you that the Lightning Theath is a great book, it is funny too.
Mrs Baker we she talk about the Lightning Teath in our next blog topic.
